Franklin Township

Franklin Township has a history intertwined with the evolution of neighboring townships. Originally part of Towamensing Township, it became a segment of Upper Towamensing or Towamensing in 1841. However, a significant shift occurred in 1850 when a petition was presented to the Carbon County Court, calling for the division of the township. Following careful consideration, commissioners were appointed to assess the situation and propose division lines. Although initial reports were set aside for reasons unrecorded, the matter was revisited later that year, leading to the establishment of Franklin Township on January 2, 1851. Bordered by the Pocono Mountains to the north, separating it from Penn Forest Township, and flanked by Towamensing to the east, Lower Towamensing to the south, and the Lehigh River to the west, Franklin Township boasts a diverse landscape. The Poho Poco Creek, originating in Towamensing Township, flows westward through Franklin before converging with the Lehigh River near Parryville, adding to the area's natural charm.
